Future service hours and repayment of expenses are different forms of relief. Before paying privately or describing an award's value, check exactly what the document authorizes.
Separate past expenses from future sessions
Keep receipts and invoices for money already paid in one record. Keep any authorized future service bank in another. Don't count the same session as both an unused future hour and an expense to be repaid. Ask a qualified representative how your request should be described.
Read the payment terms closely
An order may direct payment to a provider or require reimbursement under specified conditions. NYCPS publishes instructions for implementing orders that involve private services and school costs. Follow the controlling document and paperwork requirements; an advertised rate doesn't establish an approved reimbursement amount.
Confirm before making a private commitment
Ask what's authorized, what remains disputed, and whether the provider agreement creates obligations for your family. Keep any approval in writing. Our cost tool can illustrate the arithmetic of replacing privately paid sessions with covered services, but it can't decide whether an expense qualifies or whether a particular rate will be approved.
