When the DOE can't provide a related service on a child's IEP, it may issue an RSA so the family can use an independent provider.
What it covers
An RSA is for a related service such as speech, occupational or physical therapy, or counseling. The provider generally needs to meet the DOE's requirements to be paid under it.
What to check
- The service, frequency and dates on the RSA
- Whether the provider is set up to bill the DOE for it
- How long the RSA lasts
RSA or comp ed?
An RSA fills a current gap. Compensatory services make up for time already lost. A family can have both.
